Hello everyone, I&rsquo;m back with another tutorial on Git. In this tutorial, we&rsquo;re going to create our first Git Repository. So, fasten your seat belt and get ready to bear with me. :)

Before creating a Git Repository, we have to understand what exactly a Git repository is?
Git Repository is a .git/ folder inside a project. When we create a Git repository, it tracks all the changes made to the files and folders of that particular directory. The .git/ folder contains the complete history of changes made to that directory, so if you delete the .git/ folder, then your directory no longer behaves as a Git repository.

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Git Repositories are commonly known as Git Repo.</li>

So, now we have enough theoretical knowledge of Git repo, let&rsquo;s perform a practical to create it.
&nbsp;
Step 1: First of all, create a folder or choose a folder you want to make as a Git Repository.

I&rsquo;ve created a folder named &ldquo;Git Tut&rdquo; on my desktop for this purpose.

Step 2: Open the folder, right-click on the working area, and choose &ldquo;Git Bash Here.&rdquo;
A terminal window, as shown in the below image, will be shown to you:

This terminal window is known as Bash or CLI version of Git.

Step 3: Type the &ldquo;git init&rdquo; command on the terminal and hit enter to initialize the directory with the .git/ folder.
Note: After performing the above command, you&rsquo;ll not see any change in the &ldquo;Git Tut&rdquo; folder, because as I&rsquo;ve already mentioned, the .git/ folder is hidden by default.&nbsp;

So, you&rsquo;ve perfectly created a repository. Now, I&rsquo;ll explain some commands:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git init - This command makes the directory a Git repository.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git status - This command is used to check the status of the repository.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git --version - This command is used to check the version of the Git installed on our system.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git add . - This command adds all the files of a repository to the staging area.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git commit -m &ldquo;message&rdquo; - This command is used to commit all the changes. It creates a &ldquo;save point,&rdquo; i.e., we can revert to the old savepoint when needed.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git log - This command is used to view the history of commits of a repository.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git config --global user.name &ldquo;Name&rdquo; - This command is used to configure or set the user name.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">git config --global user.email &ldquo;email id&rdquo; - This command is used to set email.</li>

The above commands are used in this video tutorial.&nbsp;

Let&rsquo;s have a practical demonstration of all the things that we have learned so far.
&nbsp;
Step 1: Create a file or anything that you want in the Git repository. I&rsquo;ve created a file named &ldquo;index.txt&rdquo;. So, after making it, when I perform the git status command, then it shows that there is one untracked file, and you can see &ldquo;index.txt&rdquo; in red color.

Untracked files are the files that are created inside your repo&rsquo;s working directory but have not been added to the repository&rsquo;s tracking index.

Step 2: To add &ldquo;index.txt&rdquo; to the staging area, execute the below command:

Execute the git status command again, and you will see that there is no untracked file, and we&rsquo;re ready to commit.

Step 4: Before committing, I want you to perform these two commands:
<pre class="language-bash"><code>git config --global user.name &ldquo;Your user name&rdquo;
git config --global user.email &ldquo;Your email&rdquo;</code></pre>
The above commands are used to configure the name and email.&nbsp;

Step 5: After configuring email and user name, you are all set to commit your changes. Execute the command given below to commit:

Step 6: With this, you&rsquo;ve successfully committed your first change. Now, let&rsquo;s make some more changes to our &ldquo;index.txt&rdquo; file, and then we&rsquo;ll commit our changes. (Do some changes in the file and perform the &ldquo;git status&rdquo; command; you will notice that &ldquo;modified: filename&rdquo; is displayed.)

Execute the &ldquo;git add .&rdquo; command to include the &ldquo;index.txt&rdquo; file to the staging area and then make a commit.

Step 7: Now that we&rsquo;ve made two commits, let&rsquo;s use the &ldquo;git log&rdquo; command to check them.
