In this article, we will be learning to find the execution time of a Python program using the Time module.
Before starting let&rsquo;s know about what execution time is and how it affects a program. Let&rsquo;s start by explaining execution time. In simple words, the amount of time taken required by a task to complete its execution is called execution time. Now, execution time affects the program. If a program has a low execution time then it can run faster than the other programs.&nbsp;
Now we will learn to find the execution time of a Python Program using the Time module. Time module is a built-in module in the Python programming language. We are going to use this module to find the execution time of a program.&nbsp;
<h4>Finding Execution Time </h4>
We will start by creating a new file in our favorite code editor. For this tutorial, I am going to use 2 functions to demonstrate the difference between the execution time of those 2 functions. Let the functions be func1 and func2.
a) Function func1 scenario

Here, this function is simply taking 2 arguments a and b, and returns the addition of both the arguments.
b) Function func2 scenario

 return a+b</code></pre>
Here, this function is arbitrarily performing some operation on both the arguments and then at the end returning the addition of both.
c)&nbsp; Function ideology
To get the execution time, we will be calculating the difference between the time before the function call with the time in the end or after the function is called.
Let init be the variable that will store the initial time.
init = time()
Note: time() is a Python module that returns the number of seconds passed since the epoch.&nbsp;
As we know, most of the functions take negligible time for execution. So we will use a loop to get accurate results.
Then, we will subtract the time() at the current position i.e print function in this case, with the init variable. This will give us the final execution time of the program.

This gives the execution time of both functions.
Based on the above two results, we can conclude that func1 has much less execution time compared to func2 .

3) To get the execution time of the entire function
We will first initialize the time before the function call and store it in the variable init. Then at the end of the function, the time at that point will be subtracted with the init (initial) variable.
